Door handle & tirling pin

Tirling pins were fitted on town house doors. They consisted of a ring and a serrated rod, along which the ring could be rattled. This combined door handle and tirling pin comes from Borrowstouness near Bo'ness in West Lothian. It is made of iron and is pictured here on a modern display mount. It dates from the 17th century.
