A sconce is a bracket fixed to a wall for holding candles or lights, with a plaque which acts as a reflector. This brass example dates from the 17th or 18th century.

The sconce has baroque-style repoussé decoration featuring, in the centre, a concave scallop shell above which is a cherub's face and wings and a basket of fruit. Below the shell is a lion's head and at each side, two cornucopia overflowing with fruit. A cast decorative S-shaped arm at the bottom supports a shallow tray and candle socket.
