CandleholderThis stone candleholder dates from the 17th or 18th century. From the markings, it may have belonged to a weaver or tailor. It would have been preferred for its stability and solidity, which would have lessened the danger of it being knocked over and causing fire in a workshop containing inflammable material. The candleholder is for four candles in two tiers. It has the initials 'RB' incised on the upper tier, the lower tier and the back. The initials were probably those of the maker and possibly the tailor himself. On the front of the lower tier is a pair of scissors and on each of the sides a tailor's goose (iron).
