This wooden candlestick comes from Glenkens in Wigtownshire. It dates from the 17th or 18th century.
The candlestick consists of an upright stick stem fixed in on a cruciform base. Attached to the upright is a U-shaped iron collar, which holds a moving, ratcheted arm against it. On the top of the upright are three small nails, serving as a `save-all'.
