RecordDirk< 1 of 1 > Back possibly from Strathspey, Highlands
DirkThe Highland dirk was an all-purpose implement which evolved from the medieval dagger. This 18th-century example is said to be from Strathspey in the Highlands. The dirk has a decorated wooden handle. This dirk is typical of the kind of weapon which was outlawed by the various Disarming Acts which followed the unsuccessful Jacobite Risings of 1715 and 1745.
