Add to albumThis is the obverse of a 1796 copper halfpenny trade token of Gilbert Shearer & Company of Glasgow.
The obverse depicts the arms of Glasgow with the surrounding motto, 'LET GLASGOW FLOURISH'.
Glasgow's arms feature a bird, a tree, a bell, a ring and a fish inside a shield. These objects all represent some item in the study of the life of St Mungo, the patron saint of Glasgow.
