Made at Dunmore, Stirlingshire
This tobacco jar was made in the late 19th century at Peter Gardner's Pottery at Dunmore in Stirlingshire.
The cylindrical tobacco jar is moulded with classical and mythological figures.
Peter Gardner took over his father's small redware pottery in 1860 and immediately began to develop new ranges of fashionable wares. Dunmore pottery relied on unusual shapes and spectacular glazes for its effect.
