TawseA tawse was a leather belt used in schools as corporal punishment to strap children across the hand and most teachers had one. Leather tawse photographed was last used, rarely, by Mrs Evelyn Tulloch. Corporal punishment remained a feature of Scottish schools until the later 20th century.
