Javelein headA javelin is a light spear which was thrown. This iron example was found at the site of the royal hillfort of Dunadd in Argyll. It was used sometime between 400 and 900 AD. The javelin head is socketed, with a triangular-section blade. The hillfort at Dunadd was a major stronghold of the Scots. Strong defences were built, testimony to the turbulent times, as are the weapons found there. Historical sources suggest it was a royal site. Other finds reveal a wealthy and high status society.
