From Dunadd, Argyll
This iron javelin head was found at the site of the royal hillfort at Dunadd in Argyll. It dates from between 400 and 900.
The leaf-shaped javelin head is corroded. It has a socket for the haft.
The hillfort at Dunadd was a major stronghold of the Scots. Strong defences were built, testimony to the turbulent times, as are the weapons found there. Historical sources suggest it was a royal site. Other finds reveal a wealthy and high status society.
