Add to album

This candleholder was found in Guildry Close in Perth during the cutting of a drain. Made of clay, it dates from the 16th or 17th century.

The roughly circular candleholder has a central depression for a candle.

Candles were made from wax or tallow - mutton fat or pig fat, or less commonly, beef fat.
