CandleholderThis wooden candleholder is from Inverkeithing in Fife. It dates from the 18th century. The candleholder has a baluster and stands on four feet which continue upwards to form four stylised animal heads on curved necks projecting from the round stem. It is thought the candle was introduced to Britain by the Romans. From then until the second quarter of the 19th century, it remained the most widely used form of artificial light.
