Fashion plate, from La Mode IllustreéThis hand-coloured fashion plate is from La Mode Illustreé, a fashion magazine published in Paris. Dating from 1895, the plate illustrates an evening dress and a day dress. It is signed, 'Desgrange'. The style of this period was not comfortable to wear. Necklines were very high with collars lined and boned. Skirts were close fitting with rigid corsetry. The shoulder line was emphasized by very large sleeves. Isabelle Desgrange (née Toudouze) was the daughter of Adèle Anaïs Toudouze, one of the most prolific and popular fashion plate artists of the mid-nineteenth century. Isabelle also produced plates for Le Follet, Le Monde Elégant and The Queen. Record detailsTo search on related items, click any linked text below.
