This hand-coloured fashion plate is from La Mode Illustreé, a fashion magazine published in Paris. The plate illustrates an evening dress and a day dress and dates from 1865. It is signed, 'Bonnard' and 'Héloïse Leloir'.
The seated woman has a day dress, mantle (draped over the chair) and a bonnet, all trimmed with fur. She is also holding a muff - a cylindrical covering of fur into which the hands were placed for warmth.
Héloïse Leloir was born in 1820 and was the eldest daughter of Alexandre Marie Colin (1798-1875), a painter and lithographer. She married a painter named Leloir and designed plates for the house of Mariton which were distributed to many French magazines.
