Fashion plate, from The Englishwoman's Domestic Magazine
This hand-coloured fashion plate is from The Englishwoman's Domestic Magazine, a ladies' magazine published in London. The plate illustrates two women in day dresses and is dated October, 1865.
The plate is signed, 'A. Bodin' and 'Jules David'. Bodin was a French engraver who created plates for French magazines in the period 1843-70.
The Englishwoman's Domestic Magazine was founded in 1852 by Samuel Beeton, husband of the famous Mrs Isabella Beeton who wrote the cookery book. It was in this publication that Isabella's recipes first appeared.
