Add to albumThis hand-coloured fashion plate is from La Gazette Rose Illustrée, a fashion magazine published in Paris. Dated 1882, the plate illustrates two 'Costumes de retour de Voyage' - outfits suitable for a return journey home on the train.
The plate is signed 'Jules David', 'E. Cheffer' and 'Vve. Gauthier Coloriste'.
Jules David (1808-1892), had a long career producing fashion plates. His style of placing figures against elaborate backgrounds and interiors was copied by many of his successors. He continued to produce plates up until his death in 1892.
