Add to albumThis hand-coloured fashion plate is from the Italian fashion magazine, Corriere delle Dame, published in Milan. The plate is from a series entitled, 'Moda di Parigi' and illustrates two women in winter day dresses. It is dated 28 February, 1847.
One woman is wearing a bonnet, the other a cap. The plate was engraved by Gandini.
During the years 1843-70, the design of the fashion plate reached its peak. Compositions were less stilted and stylised and there was more life in the pictures. Elaborate backgrounds and interiors showed the decor of the period.
