Fashion plate, from Le Petit Courrier des Dames

This hand-coloured fashion plate is from the Le Petit Courrier des Dames, a weekly fashion magazine published in Paris. The plates illustrates two day dresses and is dated 15 April, 1849. It is signed 'Mme Florensa de Closmenil'.

The woman on the left has a lace handkerchief in her hand. The seated woman is wearing a bonnet trimmed with purple flowers.

Madame de Closmenil was responsible for many fashion plates in Le Petit Courrier des Dames. She also produced plates for Le Journal des Demoiselles, La Mode and Le Bon Ton. She sometimes shortened her signature to 'Florensa'.
