Buckle of bronze

This rectangular bronze double buckle was found at Threave Castle in Kirkcudbrightshire. It dates from the 15th century.

Threave Castle was built in the late 14th century on a small island in the River Dee. It was a stronghold of the Black Douglases, one of Scotland's most powerful medieval families.
