This iron key was found at Threave Castle in Kirkcudbrightshire. It dates from the 14th or 15th century.

Threave Castle was built in the late 14th century on a small island in the River Dee. It was a stronghold of the Black Douglases, one of Scotland's most powerful medieval families.
