This tumbler of clear white glass is engraved with a portrait of Prince Charles Edward Stewart and dated 1745. Glasses commemorating the 1745 rebellion were used for Jacobite toasts for many years after 1745.
The medallion's half-length figure of the Prince is surrounded by a Latin legend which translates as: 'Sent to help a ruined age, may Prince Charles return'. The whole is wreathed by a thistle and a rose, with stems entwined.
