Medal (obverse) commemorating the Grand Festival in honour of Robert BurnsThis is the obverse of a medal commemorating the Grand Festival in honour of Robert Burns on the banks of the River Doon on 6 August 1844. The medal is made of pewter or white metal. The obverse has a bust of Robert Burns and is inscribed 'TO COMMEMORATE THE GRAND FESTIVAL IN HONOUR OF THE GENIUS OF BURNS / ON THE BANKS OF DOON' and 'AUGUST 6th 1844'. The medal was pierced at a later date for suspension. Robert Burns is acknowledged around the world as a poet and songwriter of extraordinary impact.
