Coin (Obverse), bodle or two pence piece, from reign of William II

This is the obverse of a copper bodle minted in Edinburgh in 1695, during the reign of William II. The coin was worth two pence Scots.

The obverse has a crown above a crossed sword and sceptre. The Latin inscription translates as: 'William, by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland'.

After his wife Mary's death in 1694, William became sole ruler of England and Scotland. Coinage continued to be struck for William alone in the same denominations as it had been for William and Mary.
