Medal of the Institution of Engineers and Shipbuilders in ScotlandThis silver medal of the Institution of Engineers and Shipbuilders in Scotland was issued in 1871 to commemorate the founding of the Institution. Made by W. MacPhail, the medal depicts a bust of James Watt. The bust is surrounded by the text, 'Institution of Engineers and Shipbuilders in Scotland/Founded 1857, Incorporated 1871'. By 1765, Watt had developed an engine where the steam used to drive the piston was cooled in a separate condenser.
