RecordWine flagonmade in Edinburgh
Wine flagonThis late 18th century pewter wine flagon was made in Edinburgh by William Scott for the Wine Company of Scotland, an Edinburgh company which traded with France and Spain during the 18th and early 19th centuries. The baluster-shaped tankard has a domed lid with a shell thumb-piece. The Latin inscription on the body translates as 'Now let us drink'. Large amounts of wine, brandy, sherry and port were imported, particularly by the wine merchants of Edinburgh. Transported in wooden barrels, the wine was transferred into bottles by local merchants before sale. Record detailsTo search on related items, click any linked text below.
