Plate, made at Prestonpans, East LothianThis earthenware plate was made around 1830 at George and Robert Gordons' factory at Prestonpans in East Lothian. The plate has an all-over green glaze and a relief moulded leaf and basket-weave pattern. It is inscribed 'R&G Gordon'. Good supplies of coal and clay and easy transport by sea meant that the south side of the Firth of Forth was an ideal location for potteries to develop.
