From Bothwell Castle, Lanarkshire
This earthenware jug is from Bothwell Castle in Lanarkshire. It dates from the 14th or 15th century.
The restored jug is squat with a tubular spout, and strap handle. The jug has been glazed olive-green.
Situated on the Clyde, Bothwell Castle was probably built in the second half of the 13th century and was an important fortress during the Wars of Independence. It has been called 'probably the greatest ruin of its kind in Scotland'.
