This one-penny banknote was issued by Glasgow bankers Daniel McFunn, Duncan Buchanan & Co. It is dated 16 January 1765.

One-penny banknote, Daniel McFunn, Glasgow, 16 January 1765, a propaganda note relevant to the abolition of the Option Clause, 1765

The note was an item of propaganda in the debate surrounding the 'Option Clause', under which the issuing bank had the option of deferring payment, plus interest, for six months. The clause was abolished in 1765.
