Twelve-pound banknote

This banknote for twelve pounds Scots or one pound sterling was issued by Glasgow merchants George Keller & Co. It is dated 7 November 1764. The banknote is printed on one side only.

Banknote for twenty shillings or twelve pounds Scots, George Keller, Merchants, Glasgow, 7 November 1764

George Keller & Co. was not a banking institution. It was a wine and spirits company that issued notes in 1764 and 1765, a period when there was a mania for note-issuing (brought under control by an Act of Parliament in 1765).
