Three-pound banknote

This banknote for three pounds Scots or five shillings sterling was issued by Glasgow merchants George Keller & Co. It is dated 23 October 1764. It is printed on one side only.

Banknote for five shillings or three pounds Scots, George Keller, Merchants, Glasgow, 23 October 1764

George Keller & Co. was not a banking institution. It was a wine and spirits company that issued notes in 1764 and 1765, a period when there was a mania for note-issuing (brought under control by an Act of Parliament in 1765).
