One-pound banknote

This one pound banknote, dated 10 March 1846, was issued under the name of 'Malachi Malagrowther', the pen name of Sir Walter Scott.

The note features a representation of the Walter Scott monument in the bottom left corner.

The note was a propaganda note printed in response to the Bank Charter Act of 1845 which regulated the rights of Scottish banks to issue their own notes.
