This five shilling banknote of the Aberdeen Banking Company is dated 2 September 1799. The banknote was engraved by Kirkwood and Son from Edinburgh, and signed by J Clrick, Cashier.

The Aberdeen Banking Company, also known as the Banking Company in Aberdeen, was in existence from 1767 to 1849. It was a prosperous bank, with several branches open in the North East, and aimed to provide locally a better service than banks in Edinburgh.
