This mould is for the manufacturing of hand made paper banknotes. The design is for the watermark for the Perth Banking Company.
The mould is contained within a wooden frame.
Until the mid 19th century, all banknotes were hand signed and were usually of high quality paper. The paper normally included a distinctive watermark which was often the title of the bank in large letters covering the whole of the note.
