Bracelet

This silver bracelet was found at Skaill at Sandwick in Orkney. It is part of the largest Viking Age silver hoard found in Scotland, buried between 950 and 970.

The bracelet was made from a thin band of silver with hooked terminals. It is decorated with stamped decoration on its outer face, made with a stamp containing a motif of a triangle enclosing three pellets. The bracelet is very worn.

A variety of stamps decorated Viking Age silver. The two most popular types of stamp in Scandinavia were the simple ring-stamp, sometimes with ring-and-dot variation, and the triangle with one or three pellets, often combined to form an hourglass.
