RecordCast of a grave-slab< 1 of 1 > Back From an original made in the West Highlands, found at Kilmory, Knapdale, Argyll
Cast of a grave-slabThis is a plaster cast of a grave-slab found at Kilmory in Knapdale in Argyll. The slab was made in the West Highlands in the 14th or 15th century. The head of the stone is decorated with a foliated cross, beneath which is a sword flanked by plant-scrolls. The hilt and the blade carry an inscription commemorating three men of the same family. The three men commemorated on the stone were possibly craftsmen in the service of the Lords of the Isles. One of them was a carpenter and the insignia of his trade are carved beside the first part of the epitaph. Record detailsTo search on related items, click any linked text below.
