This granite stone, hollowed on the top and carved with three human faces, was found in Sutherland. Its purpose is unknown, but probably had religious significance. It dates from between 100 BC and 100 AD.

Grey granite stone with pink specks, hollowed on top, the sides carved with three human faces, from Sutherland

The number three has had religious significance for millennia. In this case the three human heads may represent a three-faced head of a god.
