From Buiston Crannog, Ayrshire Buston
This fragment of an earthenware drinking vessel was found on Buiston Crannog in Ayrshire. It dates from between 585 and 630.
The drinking vessel was an example of wheel-made imported pottery, known as 'E' ware.
The drinking vessel was one in a range of vessels imported to Britain from south-west France by Gaulish (French) traders. A luxury item, it would have been used in aristocratic feasts.
