RecordBasin< 1 of 1 > Back from Newstead, Roxburghshire
BasinThis sandstone basin was found during excavations at the site of the Roman fort at Newstead in Roxburghshire. It was used sometime between 80 and 180 AD. The basin has a flat base and two projecting corbel-shaped lugs, one broken on top and redressed. There is a small flat depression on the rounded lip. A number of objects associated with food preparation and eating were preserved at Newstead. These range from simple, everyday objects belonging to the low-ranking soldiers, to exotic and expensive wares imported and owned by the officers.
