From Fraoch Eilean, Loch Awe, Argyll
This fragment of a glass bangle was found at Fraoch Eilean at Loch Awe in Argyll. It was made in Ireland and brought to Scotland probably in the 8th century as either a gift or a possession of an Irish visitor.
The bangle was ornamented with a distinctive dot decoration on a dark background.
This bangle fragment with its distinctive decoration is of a type known from Ireland, but otherwise not found in Scotland. There was much contact between western Scotland and Ireland during the first millennium AD, as in previous millennia.
