Amber bead

This amber bead was found at Croy in Inverness-shire in a hoard consisting primarily of Pictish jewellery. The hoard was buried between 800 and 900.

Amber was a valuable material, used for expensive jewellery by both Pictish and Scandinavian craftsmen. Most amber was probably imported from the Baltic region.
