From Brackmont Mill, near Leuchars, Fife
This ceramic pot with a lid was found in a cemetery at Brackmont Mill near Leuchars in Fife. It contained the cremated remains of a newborn baby, buried sometime between 2000 and 1500 BC. The use of a lid on such a pot is very unusual.
The body of the pot is plain.
In death, different age groups were sometimes dealt with in different ways. Some children received a modified version of an adult burial. Here, the pot containing the remains was buried upright in a cemetery where all the adults' urns were upside down.
