From Morton Farm, Tentsmuir, Fife
This chopper, made from a quartzite pebble, was found during excavations at Morton Farm at Tentsmuir in Fife. It was made between 5500 and 4800 BC and was a simple but effective butchery tool.
The pebble has been split to produce a sharp chopping surface.
The excavations at Tentsmuir were on the site of a camp of gatherer-fisher-hunters, which was occupied seasonally to exploit the local resources.
