HoeThis double bladed stone tool, probably a hoe, is a stray find from Ormiston at Abdie in Fife. It is a long-lived form, and likely to date sometime between 3800 BC and 500 AD. The hoe is double-edged, flat on one side and converse on the other. The ends are imperfect. The centre is pierced. Simple tools such as this, without archaeological contexts, are very difficult to date. If used as a hoe, it is likely to have been used on fairly light soils, probably in cultivating a small plot.
