Shoulder belt plate of the 74th Highland Regiment

This shoulder belt plate of the 74th Highland Regiment dates from between around 1800 and 1819. This regiment served in India from 1789 to 1805.

The figure of an elephant was incorporated to mark the regiment's service in India.

At the battle of Assaye in September 1803 every officer in the 74th was either killed or wounded.
