Portrait of Major General Sir David Ochterlony

This mezzotint of Major General Sir David Ochterlony (1758-1825) was made in 1816.

A son of the Scottish diaspora, born of Scottish parents in Boston in Massachusetts, Ochterlony entered the service of the East India Company army in 1777.

A mezzotint is a print made by engraving a copper plate, and scraping and burnishing the roughened surface.
