Shoulder belt plate of the Glengarry Fencible Light Infantry

This shoulder belt plate of the Glengarry Fencible Light Infantry dates from between around 1812 and 1820. This force served in the Anglo-American War of 1812.

Glengarry Light Infantry (Canada) - Rank and file belt plate, 1812 - c. 1820

After the disbanding of the Glengarry Fencibles in 1804, Father Alexander Macdonnell, Regiment chaplain, persuaded the government to grant the Fencibles land in Upper Canada. The Light Infantry was formed from the Scottish emigrants in Glengarry County.
