Porcelain cake stand or comport

This porcelain cake stand, also known as a 'comport', is one of four from a dessert service made by Glasgow potters J. and M.P. Bell. The company started producing this type of porcelain service in the 1860s.

The pink and white cake stand is decorated with a hand-painted view of Scottish scenery.

John and Matthew Perston Bell's company became one of the biggest and best-known potteries in Scotland. In production by 1842, the Glasgow Pottery, or 'Bells' as it was more commonly known, made a wide range of wares.
