Soup plate, made at Kirkcaldy, FifeThis earthenware soup plate was probably made in 1881, by David Methven & Sons' pottery at Kirkcaldy in Fife. It was produced for export to south-east Asia. The plate has a fluted border and a centre pattern called 'Oriental' showing a domed building. The town of Kirkcaldy on the north shore of the Firth of Forth was one of the major centres of Scottish pottery production. In the second half of the 19th century it had four separate factories.
