Seal matrix

This brass seal matrix of a monk of Crossraguel Abbey in Ayrshire was found in a drain at the abbey. It dates from the 13th century.

The upper part of the leaf-shaped matrix has a half-length figure of the Virgin with the Child. Below is a depiction of a monk in adoration.
