With a portrait of Robert Burns
This glass whisky decanter with an etched portrait of Robert Burns dates from the late 19th century.
The inscription above the portrait of Burns reads 'Burn's Decanter'. Below the portrait is inscribed 'Tak' a cup o'kindness yet for Auld Lang Syne'.
The Scottish whisky industry's overseas markets were boosted in the 1870s and 80s when the failure of the grape harvest destroyed brandy production and whisky and soda became a fashionable after-dinner drink.
